Polar Rescue

Snow lay deep in mid December,
winter winds blew vengeful cold
when a call came on the airwaves –
it’s a tale that must be told.

Where the North Pole stands surrounded
by bleak ice and nothing more,
there’s a room beneath the surface
with an ice block for a door.

If you know its secret password
and gain access to inside,
what a sight that meets your vision –
how your eyes will open wide.

But the tale that I was telling,
as I said, it must be told,
is about two little people
who got lost out in that cold.

They were heading to the North Pole
and its toyshop underground
when Boreas of the north winds
saw them coming, and he frowned.

Summoning his cousin Blizzard,
they commenced to puff and blow
at two weary, little travelers
who were trudging through the snow.

What Boreas and his cousin
didn’t know, and I’ll confess
that the elves out on the tundra
brought along their GPS!

First a call (they had a cellphone)
to their colleagues at the Pole
who came out to aid in rescue –
it was quite some night patrol.

Deep inside that hidden grotto
where they build fine toys and things,
there was happiness and laughter
and a feast that’s fit for kings.
