Mary, Did You Know?

When you held your baby tight
on that fateful starry night,
'midst the lambs and donkey's bray,
were you thankful on that day?

Did you know this babe so dear
would someday make you shed a tear?
Did angels speak to you of this
or was it but a dream remiss?

His sweetness on that holy night,
with northern star that shown so bright-
the Jesus child lie unaware
of all the souls that He would spare.

The shepherds and the kings adored
this little child, Messiah, Lord,
who slept upon His manger bed,
no "crown of thorns" upon his head.
