On The Mountain

This craggy faced mountain
propelled up from the millennia,
striped with dark layers, bold cliffs
obscured history, locked in place.

Impregnated with fossils,
remnants of lost life
yielding up ancient thoughts,
still… so  dormant it stands.

Paleo clues, hidden  bone fragments
a few small creatures, inhabit now
clouds almost touching my fingertips
misting ever so lightly.

Climbed this peak exploring,
hoping, curious :

Holding…
an empty hourglass,
looking  for the sand of time.

Hi Larry

This poem was a delight to read.  I have just been to Tenerife and been up to the top of Mount Teide and your poem fits the images from that trip perfectly.

I like the idea of the mountain's longevity, holding secrets of earth's history and ourselves being just a grain of sand in relation to the lenght of time the mountain has existed.
