Greetings arrive on gossamer wings
the bright length of the day at hand
breath -- a birth -- joy within us sings
round a parlor tree -- the piano grand.

Oh how I wish -- and wish on it again
the lord himself on this his natal day --
ah so many lonely centuries it’s been --
would return in the jolly man’s sleigh.

I love that first line - and even more so because some of the greetings at this time of year are very tenuous anyway, expressed because they are expected rather than because the person concerned really cares a jot.
