The Wandering Minstrel ** (a romantic companion ballad to Tom Rhymer)
I picked white heather roses As I walked through the heath; Then plucked sweet, purple violets And wove all in a wreath. I saw the lady of my dream Walk slowly through the dew; In envy, sunshine faded pale, The sky changed pink from blue. Oh, while she paused and sweetly smiled, So gently then bowed down, I placed upon her fairy head My fragrant, flowery crown. A grouse stirred from her nest of grass With loud and drumming sound; It woke me from my wishful dream— Just flowers I have found. |
