THE LAST POST

To Stephen Pray 28 February 2013

When we, young patriots, paraded proud
to serve our nations each in faith were sworn.
Subconsciously a soldier’s oath avowed
that brother will a fallen brother mourn.

As strangers sharing on the internet
poetic thoughts on verse and metric flow
A sea apart, although we never met,
your life was in your poems for me to know.

You’re gone now Steve, I’ll miss your cyber voice,
a man who walked life straight and standing tall;
A soldier and a gentleman whose choice
was always for the better good of all.

For bravery displayed in that last stand,
my friend, I you salute with open hand.

Respects and condolences to the family.
I am honoured to have known him.

Wally Schwim

I was greatly saddened by the news of Steve's demise and would have posted something sooner but this has been a very busy week for me. I pray for peace for Steve's family and may God soothe their pain in dealing with his passing. I offer a poem for him, his family and his MM family.

IN MEMORIUM

A gracious poet, laid to rest, has left his world of pain;
gone to rewards he garnered here, we’ve read his last refrain.
That turn of phrase paired with mischievous smile he shared with all.
With strength and care, he lived his life until that final call.

Great pain and grief o'er fills the cup of those now left behind
who should not rue his empty shell, he lives on in our mind
through lines he wrote that brought a grin and sometimes even mirth;
they’re testimony to that life he lead upon this earth.

Rejoice in his reward and all the lives touched when he gave
his thoughts; impassioned gifts… the words… the love; not of the grave!
Each day his path grew harder with those steps he had to tread
but words he wrote reminded us of hearts and minds he’d fed.

With love we bid you fond farewell and through this veil of grief
we see you as you were, not as you are, before life's thief.
How is it that our hearts can be so full of love and pain?
God will, when all are gathered 'round, this mystery explain.

Rest in Peace Steve

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
