Hello all my friends,

Just to let you all know, I finally had word back from University of Pittsburgh. They have told me that I am not an illegible candidate for lung transplant. Not the news I really wanted to hear, but I understand their reasons, I have far too many reactions to medications and an organ receiver has to be able to take multiple medications in large doses and is subject to lots of stress. They felt that I could not take the medication nor would my body withstand the stress.
I was semi-prepared for this so it is not a total surprise, I will continue to write and post here for as long as I can. Please do not feel badly about this, if you wish to try and help, then please donate to the American Lung Assoc. or your countries lung research projects to help in the fight against lung disease. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers.

Take care all,
Steve

Dear Steve,

I'm sure you will have something to say when he comes, but remember he could appear in an entirely unexpected guise and catch you unawares.

I have some direct experience of this. The feeling of disappointment I had when I was told "You are unworthy to die" was very intense, like failing an exam. I was returned to a broken body in disgrace to face the pain. (All my ribs were broken and had perforated the lungs)

So death is not a bad thing in some circumstances but in the meantime all I say is that my prayers and thoughts are with you wherever you travel my Brother Poet.

It seems that you are more worthy than I for now, but the doctors are not always right and strange things can happen. You could be writing poems to share with us for a long time yet. Keeping in a positive mindset is probably the most difficult challenge you must face and writing can help release tension.
