La Danse Prend Deux (The Dance Takes Two)

Sensuous 'soiree dansant';
spirited, sexy,
essence de la vie ...

Timely mix of simple,
yet complex tempos;
mutual understanding
takes patience, commitment.
Some never master it;
can't appreciate its difficulty,
unwilling to sacrifiez l'effort.

Positive attitude
is paramount to success.
When striding misstep,
ne donnez pas dedans;
caresse,

keep learning together --
strong, determined, optimistic;
pax de deux.

Without a partner ...
there is no danse.

de la vie - of life
sacrifiez l'effort - sacrifice the effort
ne donnez pas dedans - do not give in

Hi Cathy

A very interesting look at dance as a metaphor for sex or a relationship/marriage.  I think you sum it up very well and as you say:

Without a partner ...
there is no danse.

You have an unusual combination of English and French in the poem which I'm not sure works for me.  Personally I'd prefer to see it all in English (though others will probably disagree).  The French interrupts the flow, making the dance slightly jerky, though perhaps that is what you intended.

A few thoughts

Sensuous 'soiree dansant';
spirited, sexy,
essence de la vie ...

Timely mix of simple,
yet complex tempos;
mutual understanding
takes patience, commitment.
Some never master it;
can't appreciate its difficulty,  (you could also use don't)
unwilling to sacrifiez l'effort.

Positive attitude
{is} paramount to success.
When striding misstep,
ne donnez pas dedans;
caresse,
keep learning together --
strong, determined, optimistic;
pa{x}[s] de deux.

Without a partner ...
there is no danse.
