g,
laugh.gif

I never took latin in HS, and I don't understand latino's either.
Though spanish did help.

This piece was just one of those idle moments, trying to think of
something to write.

Well it worked for Julius, Nero, Octavius etc.

vox populare

LOVE THiS!
or should I say

I took two years of Latin in high school.. so I know ALLLLL about Latin (chortle chortle)

Trouble is, even after taking all that Latin, I still can't understand those Latino kids!

Nice work, Larry...

Don,
I think everyones old Latin translators have gone by the wayside.
In the old days it was still being taught in the HS.

Hi Larr,

Just discovered this gem by accident. Thank you very much for the Latin lesson. I feel smarter! I would respond in Latin, but don't know any. Okay, cognito, ergo sum, carpe diem then go have that drink!

Wine and French now being served at my Brunette By Land...post in Homer's. :)

David,
that was in case they ever revived the Roman Empire.
I will now write what I observe on the $1.00 bill the only latin left :

Annuit cœptis, novus ordo seclorum.
Pity

Bring back Latin.

Hi Larry,

So that is where the Romans learned Latin?  From the greatest of Greeks.

Thanks for the English translation, the old language franca is ashes with all my school books.

All my party bashes
flare up in flashes
to end up in ashes.

 Collection of Latin Cliché’s
in poem form

Totidem verbis
veritas nunquam perit
lapsus calami
cadit quaestio
cum grano salis

nihil obstat
et sic de ceteris
hic et nunc
ad rem

de facto

ad hoc
ad absurdum
ad infinitum
ad nauseum

arbiter elegantiae
aude sapere
de profundis
locus desperatus

respice finem
magnum bonum
nunc est bibendum
omnia vincit amor.
~ fin ~

translation

In so many words
truth never dies
a slip of the pen
the question drops
with a grain of salt

nothing stands in the way
and so to the rest
here and now
to the point

in fact

this particular purpose
to the point of absurdity
and infinity, is to the
point of making one sick
judging in matters of taste

dare to know...that
up from the depths
a hopeless passage
looked at to the end,
doing a great good

now it is time to drink
love conquers all.
~fin~

Hi Larry,

Next time I need to try to sneak a cliche past James I'll creep in here to see what's available.

Wonderful ....
