On The Mountain
This craggy faced mountain propelled up from the millennia, striped with dark layers, bold cliffs obscured history, locked in place.
Impregnated with fossils, remnants of lost life yielding up ancient thoughts, still… so dormant it stands.
Paleo clues, hidden bone fragments a few small creatures, inhabit now clouds almost touching my fingertips misting ever so lightly.
Climbed this peak exploring, hoping, curious :
Holding… an empty hourglass, looking for the sand of time.

Hi Larry,
What a powerful tale of a mountain. I love the idea of it being propelled up thru the millenia (like the Andes or Himalayas - growing as the tectonic plates squish together - note scientific terminology: 'squish') and the clouds so close. A wonderful mix of history and natural history. And no back-pack required. Thanks for the journey. :pharoah2

Hi Larry,
Well done!
I agree with Fran's comments. in addition, I think that the final verse is fab. I love the concept of a solid mountain of rock's progress being measured in terms of its particles.
Well done, my dear chap - super stuff.
James.

Larry Hi Larry,
Moutain climbing is too great a project for me. May be some mole hills will do. :jester:
Best,

Hi Larry
This poem was a delight to read. I have just been to Tenerife and been up to the top of Mount Teide and your poem fits the images from that trip perfectly.
I like the idea of the mountain's longevity, holding secrets of earth's history and ourselves being just a grain of sand in relation to the lenght of time the mountain has existed.

Hi Larry,
Speaking as one of the most recent "new" species to have been discovered, I think I'll remain in my environment, reading of pluckier souls up high, thanks. But do visit!
James.

Lori, Nina, Jox, Lindi,
Thank you for your warm comments. This was a piece that came out of nowhere, and just seemed to fall in place.

Hey Larry,
You have some great imagery here, but what stuck me was this part:
clouds almost touching my fingertips misting ever so lightly.
It had a sensual touch to it.
Loved it Dani
