Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

This is the first of four answers to the "Painting Challenge". Tomorrow's Seeds - A Sonnet is followed by three less serious forms after this post. Syl, would you be so kind as to put the picture with each post?

Tomorrow’s Seeds

Each curve, an invitation to appease
some hunger deep within. The epicure
may see a flower’s fruit that’s sure to please
the palette but the mind remains unsure.

Its alabaster flesh awaits the touch
of teeth and lips or eager tongue to taste
fruition’s flavors; ripening that such
a sweet delight may seldom go to waste.

But colors fade; their crowns of gold or red
will dissipate with age from pleasure’s light
and in time’s wake, an aftertaste of dread
will fill the mouth. Such is an artist’s plight

to capture precious moments with their eye
and gift tomorrows with those seeds which die.

A Double Acrostic Nonet

could this satisfy me

curves
on a
unclad fruit
lured me and I
devoured the sweetness;
taking it for myself,
hoping if I left any
it would not be merely a dream
summoned by my hunger for one bite.

Hi Bev,
Thanks for the visit! I wish you'd come around more often.

And yes, it's a lovely painting. I've been unsuccessful trying to find the artist. I believe it's a close-up (a part) of a larger painting of the Three Graces. This would be one of them. Notice the apples, which often appear in their hands.
But the Graces were painted by Botticelli, Rafael and several other famous artists over time, right up to the 19th. Century.
I'll continue investigating.
Best, Syl butterfly.gif

Wow, Larry, four answers to the painting challenge! claps.gif

Of course, the sonnet is my favorite, but limericks remind me of my father, who was Scottish but still enjoyed them. I just read a book about the people in the town of Limerick, Ireland, during the 19th. Century. What tremendous suffering they went through... famines, child and female labour in the mines, harsh treatment, etc.
Well, people in Bolivia were treated in the same fashion. That's what Che Guevara observed. It marked him forever, but he was betrayed by Fidel Castro, as well as the bolivian military aided by the CIA. It all went wrong for him.

Things have changed a lot in Bolivia, under Evo Morales. Most people were horrified at first, but he's led the country back to prosperity and growth. He's an indigenous man, same as Correa in Ecuador.

I wonder whether you would be willing to move your sonnet and nonet to Plato's? For more people to enjoy. Nobody seems to come "down here" nowadays.

Just let me know where to upload the painting.

I wanted to ask some questions about your nonet, but my daughter is fetching me in a few minutes. Must rush!

Best,
Syl butterfly.gif

Hi Syl,

I've posted, as per your request, both the Sonnet and the Nonet in Plato's. With the paucity of participation in all of MM, I feel the move might be an exercise in futility but who knows.

Hello again Lori,

I figured that since no one else is participating in the challenges these days, I would try a few different pieces to express my thoughts on the painting.

I looked for the artist on line for a while but could find nothing that told me when or where or by whom it was painted. It must be a recent (within the last century) because of the pierced ear rings and the bracelet the girl is wearing.

I guess that will remain a mystery.

Hope you are doing great.

Larry
