A Star, A Star, Shining in the Night

They were almost there, some fifty five light years from Earth. In the year 2525, he Joseph Issacson astronomer-physicist-priest was finally going to prove his theory. He had calculated and ran all the simulations through the super computers ---bing--- we are now coming out of warp drive ---bing--- he quietly went forward to the bridge.

Captain Billings turned his head and smiled, Well Joseph it seems we are here. Yes, Captain what have we ascertained so far? There are lots of stellar gases and the AI says that it has found residues of a super-nova ---bing--- notification of lone planetoid 15 light seconds at 37-44-26.5 ---bing--- now that interesting Joseph.

Please let us go investigate Captain.

Four long weeks later, exhausted, Joseph sat in his state room head in hands, sadden and angry, disturbed in mind and soul. Thinking wildly, How could this be? Why? He was a scientist but he was also a deeply religious man. All the facts concurred, the math was meticulous, and they had found the evidence inside the artifact buried on the far side of the planet. The people living here had known their destiny and had quietly made provisions for the remains of their history to be found.

The aliens had a belief in a greater being, just as he did and they called it God, just as he did. They all to the last male, female and child accepted what was to be, and in that acceptance went willingly in the disaster Joseph had called a super-nova. But his belief was shaken when the final results came in, printed in black and white.

Their super-nova had been called by another name, so many years ago. It had shone brightly in the night sky, its brilliance in destruction had illuminated; and had guided three wise men to a manger in a town called Bethlehem.

Joseph thought, his God had destroyed a race of beings to proclaim the birth of his Son on Earth.
