A Commitment.

Seems a lifetime ago, I said “I do”
after I’d declared my love for you.
A vow sincere that is as true today
as it was upon that cold grey day.

It was a long ago, December day
when we started on our married way.
Serenely in Love, sealed with a ring,
to share whatever life might bring.

Today our way, remains ever clear,
allowing us to accept without fear,
the future. Our passion - never stilled,
allowed our hearts’ desires to be filled,

and though we are no longer young,
we climb life’s ladder, rung by rung,
safe in knowing love will never end,
both for me, and my life-love, friend.

Sometimes we’ll sit, holding hands:
or walk in silence, for each understands
Love’s bonds, stronger every day,
preclude the need for words to say.

When gazing into her soft brown eyes,
therein is seen the girl I met: no surprise
She was the one I loved so long ago,
and since that day, has remained ever so.

Life has been great, I’m without regret,
for never once has there been one met
who can compare with my Jersey Rose:
Perfect in every way, as you’d suppose.

The 'stuff' dreams are made of!
Closing in on 62 years of Wedded Bliss.
Jersey Rose? My wife comes from Jersey, Channel Islands off the coast of France.

Hi Rhymer, cheer.gif
This poem makes me highly emotional. What a lovely tribute to your wife Jersey Rose!
Going on 62 years of married bliss must be a blessing to both of you. cloud9.gif

Sometimes we’ll sit, holding hands:
or walk in silence, for each understands
Love’s bonds, stronger every day,
preclude the need for words to say.

I love it all, but chose the above stanza because I absolutely agree that silence between loved ones conveys a bond that is not possible to transmit with words. That's my opinion! Also holding hands is something very special.

It reminds me that I have a poem in my archives that deals with these sentimental issues, except that mine is far shorter. I don't think it even rhymes!

I'm so glad you posted this rhyming love poem here at Plato's. I apologise for not commenting sooner. Trouble is, MM is critically short of moderators, and our administrator has been away for over a year, with serious personal problems. It seems she'll be back after the festivities. Hope so! lovie.gif

Admins and Mods make members feel that they're appreciated. The whole place seems to fade into the woodwork when there's nobody to appeal to in case of some problem.

I'm the only Mod around at the moment. It's just not feasible for me to be able to post those great challenges fast enough to satisfy the few members who love the inspiration they give one. But I can't always hit on the right sort of challenge. In fact, I started doing it on my own because I knew Lori could not... Now I feel it's an obligation.

BTW, any member can post challenges of their own, did you know that? I'm not sure that you can actually access that space, but all of you can PM ideas of your own. Only to me right now, sorry about that... LOL. If you want to suggest topics in a simpler fashion, instead of using a PM, just post your ideas as a comment and I'll gladly arrange them correctly and give you credit with some lines at the top, so that my name Psyche will not be involved, technically speaking. How about it? claps.gif

In fact, I've decided to come here only twice a week, because when I have to do everything, I can't find inspiration for my own work.

Thank you so much, Denis, for posting this heartfelt poem for us to enjoy. I do hope that your darling Jersey Rose knows that you've posted it here. I'm sure that you've read it aloud to her! And that you brought tears of happiness to her eyes and a big loving smile to her lips.

Best, Syl butterfly.gif
