Lizard King

I am the lizard king,
hot-house jungle terror.
My tread shakes the sands
sends shivers through the leaves.
I am cousin to Komodo and Gila,
though thy are called dragons.
But I am better than they,
as in Chinese myths and tales I can fly.
My claws sharper than those told of in tales of knighthood.
I am the final fruit, combination of centuries of genes,
from the greatest creatures to ever roam the land,
I have been spawned!

Oh, look Henry, first Robin of spring.

Hi Steve

It's so good to read your work again!

This is amazing and so imaginative.

Lizard King

I am the lizard king,
hot-house jungle terror.
My tread shakes the sands
sends shivers through the leaves.
I am cousin to Komodo and Gila,
though thy are called dragons.
I might consider shortening this line to:
called dragons

But I am better than they,
as in Chinese myths and tales I can fly.
My claws sharper than those told of in tales of knighthood.
I am the final fruit, combination of centuries of genes,
from the greatest creatures to ever roam the land,
I have been spawned!

Oh, look Henry, first Robin of spring.

This is a twist at the end - not sure I understand it, but enjoyed it anyway.
Thanks for the entertaining read.

Take care

Eira, thanks for reading and I will change the line. Scientist have found fossilized remains of feathers around dinosaur bones and think that modern birds are descendants of dinosaurs. So basically the whole first part of the poem can be conceived of the Robins thought process, as As Alice, Henry's wife looks out and says her lines. And by play to this is if a Robin is thinking this imagine what an eagle is thinking...lol.

Take care
Steve
