Hi Larry!

I enjoyed reading your heartfelt Sonnet. Love the metaphor; inception/new beginnings and how you tied it into the purity and richness of the Christmas Season!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Aphrodite,

Haven't seen you around for a while. Love your Holiday Classic post and in "Triolet" form no less. Too bad
that lots of people have forgotten the "reason for the season".

Loved it,
Larry

Hello, Larry. Yes, I have not been writing much and on a dry spell for a while now. I am happy to hear from you! Thank you for your kind words and I agree that we need to always remember the "reason for the season."

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

An Eastern star, a hallowed sight
brought kings of plenty to the child
on camels high God’s sky shined light,
an Eastern star, a hallowed sight.
To Nazareth, bags gleaming bright
pure gold, burnt resin, plant oils piled,
an Eastern star, a hallowed sight
brought kings of plenty to the child.

The snow is falling lightly down
To kiss the season’s b l e s s e d ground
As smiling children lose their frown
The snow is falling lightly down
Bright twinkling lights glow through each town
Full hearts at Christmas, all resound
The snow is falling lightly down
To kiss the season’s b l e s s e d ground

Sweet milk and cookies leave his sign
Big Red has snacked and brought the toys
And houses smell of mint and pine
Sweet milk and cookies leave his sign
While toasty fires spread warmth and shine
For small and bigger girls and boys
Sweet milk and cookies leave his sign
Big Red has snacked and brought the toys

December’s meaning makes its mark
As people gather on His day
To honor Christ the angels hark
December’s meaning makes its mark
when kings and shepherds trekked in dark
to meet the Savior where he lay
December’s meaning makes its mark
As people gather on His day

She waits patiently listening for
hurried hooves on rooftops,
bells jingling, but hears
the pounding of her neglected heart in
the frostiness of December’s air,

her hands purple and chapped to the bone,
placed over a small fire she blows while rubbing
hard to generate feeling,

through faint colors of crimson red, emerald green
and glimmer gold, a rush of contentment
warms her insides as she harks back to
Christmas lights curved on snow-powdered
bushes in front of her childhood home,
a slight smile widens her burdened face,

she closes her eyes and breathes-in
scents of peppermint, spice, pine and
cinnamon, reminiscent of moments savored
with family, her heart weeps,

fantasy soon replaced by echoes
of gunshots,
a dwindling fire shared
in a rusted barrel
as city lights fade into the infected blackness of night,
the magic of the season lingers while
she clenches on to hope.

Hi Eric,

This is such a beautiful poem, filled with such wonder and longing.
There are so many great words/phrases to comment on, but I especially love the the last line...

"We were champions of sandcastles
till September
lacquered the land with autumn rain."

Perfection!

Happy holidays,
Lindi

Hello Aphro,

Addictions, no matter which one, are difficult creatures.
I have friends and acquaintances who succumbed to alcohol, and accepting that takes a bit of doing sometimes.

Hi Merlin,

Thanks for commenting on my poem. It is very hard to watch someone you love fade away.
I am sorry for your experience with this.

Happy holidays to you.

Lindi,

This is so poignant on many levels. I'm soooo sorry that "the smoking life" consumed your father - but this is a spot-on expression of the coffin, i.e. bed he made - and the wish to have just one more breath of 'clean air'.

This is one to make one think!!!

Hi Lori,

It is nice to be back! I have many poems about my Dad and how much I love and miss him. This one expresses my sadness and anger, that because of his addiction to cigarettes, I was robbed precious time with him.

I appreciate your comments very much!

Happy Autumn. pumpkin.gif

Hi Mike,

This is beautifully written and a wonderful representation of beauty in nature! A pantoum is not an easy poem to write, but you have made it seem effortless!

I think you did a masterful job in keeping a wonderful flow, while the "small streams and brooklets drink their fill!"

A refreshing expression, duality weeping of birth and reparation! (for me)

Hi Lindi

I've just called by to say how much I've enjoyed reading your SQ (very well written)
My Dad died 5 years ago and I feel much the way you do, longing for all the things we talked about - just to hear his voice. It was kind of comforting to know someone else out there is feeling just the same.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Snow,

Thank you very very much for your comments. I am very late in replying, but appreciate your kind words.

I am deeply sorry for your loss too. It is hard to believe that I haven't spoken to my dad in 9 years, but thank God for my religious belief. When times are especially hard, it helps!

Blessings,

Hi Merle,

I apologize for just getting back to you. I didn't receive a notice and will have to fix that.

I am sorry for your loss and understand how you feel. It was 9 long years ago yesterday, (October 2) that I lost my dad.
I miss him so. :(

It is part of life, but still so very hard.

Blessings,
Lindi

You lie there, solid and firm,
as onlookers gawk and comment
on how good you turned out.

They did such a good job, they whisper,
like white plaster thrown on hard walls,
you just take it.

How you love to hold hands, but not your own,
the Rosary Beads d r a p e loosely cross
spindly fingers, like drops from tears cried dry.

In the bed you made, you lie cold,
a hard box unlike the feathery soft
mattress you once fell into.

Consumed by a lifelong toxic cloud,
sucking in, you lie ravaged and still.

Oh, but for just one more breath of clean air.

Hello Mike,

Such a deeply passionate poem with so much emotion! Your words ring true as we reverse roles in life, especially as our dear parents age.
I believe, as hard as it may be, that is what a good daughter or son does!

Very touching and genuine.
Thank you for sharing.
