The monster has struck once again,
although it was thought to be tame.
It roasted the prey that it had slain,
by the use of its throat-centered flame.

What remained at the site was some bones,
and the tubes of the tent, standing tall.
Purely puddles of plastic, their phones,
in the sand a few words they would scrawl.

"It's the Ogopogo that we know,
we sighted those three sine curves".
(His firey breathe bestowed a glow,
they've been toasted like d'oeurves!)

The lesson that's learned for all concerned,
was sleep in a double bag.
If hastilly your sleep is adjourned,
for with "O" you don't play tag!

Oh Ron, this reads delightfully. I just printed it out and will get to it soon. I just have so many other poems I have sitting here that I've promised a return on and need to make good with my word. Yet, I had to tell you that I read this and it gave me a wiggly nose full of giggles..

Hey, by the way ... what does PL to excess, woe to CoCC mean? ...

Let me start there! LOL

Hugs, Liz

And Happy Father's Day if it applies...

Hi Ron,
Great use of triple beat - undulates nicely in the water.

PL is Poetic License... everyone should achieve one.
CC is comments and critique.

The reader is urged to google "Ogopogo", there are excellent sites with good information. It's interesting to note that the natives of the region, long before whiteman came to these parts, would offer gifts to Ogopogo in a certain part of the lake when passing by canoe. It's further interesting that there were numerous sightings by captains of the paddle wheelers that once traversed the lake before roads and highways were pushed thru. These cannot all be discounted as myth.

A couple of summers back, a workmate was out on the lake when he photographed Ogopogo. We all chuckled a little, cuz Jim sometimes smokes the funny weed, so we wondered... I never did see his pictures, but he sold them to some TV outfit (not for much, either). Before that, a Japanese TV crew was doing a documentary on the lake when they had the good fortune to have the water begin churning near their boat.

Ogopogo is older than Nessi.

Dear Amethyst,
I am generally not so daring with meter substitutions but the piece does entail some turbulence. I was really trying to make the point that a single sleeping bag might be too restrictive to allow for escape from Ogopogo. A heavy price to pay for the minor savings!
Merlin is correct re PL, but the CoCC should have been CoC for Chamber of Commerce. However, the beach losses might easily be compensated for by telescope sales.

Dear Merlin,
Did you notice that I didn't stick to "tight rhymes and wry", but even deviated to abab, just for you!

Cheers to all, Ron jgd
