Sylvia,
A tale of woe caused by Cupid Me thinks you should send him
on R & R, then outfit him with new wings, big quiver, large bow and arrows
heavily dipped in the exilir of love

LOVE'S DUES

He left yesterday. Images of fallow roads
puncture my solitude, and fade. The sun erodes
my thoughts like a dry sponge. They grow dim -
love's tendrils wind their way around my heart
to build on solid ground a world apart
that may by gentle force go on, and round him.
The sky is not my friend today: it casts a garish spell
on things and dreams. It counterpoises Camelot.

Alone, I'm heart struck, quite unwell,
denizen-prisoner of inner space
where only elves dare tread and trim with lace
my memories of him. O give my life a sense of plot !
By lightning struck, I'm a rejected pawn
with bunker-shaped dome, afraid of dawn.
A weary nomad by this love accursed,
I merely quarry sadness and thirst.

Prophets ! Seers ! read the riddle of subterranean fears,
my eggshell life. Players in this game of tears
deserve three lives. I find that I, poltroon,
dare not pursue the sentimental lane,
yet shining softly on my bed, Mock Moon,
a gray, autumnal calm has stilled the pain,
spreads down my spine, may paralyse my vows.
Falling in line may take a thousand years, to plough
a furrow through Love's harsh confines -
I do not even know it's I who writes these lines.
Life dissolved in threads, uninhabited plateaus,
Cupid's arrow is weighed with woes !
Aphrodite should have sung last rites
to the knife-wounds of my heart's plight.

Gee, Larry, i came here to the cybercafé intent on reading other people's poems but i've been all this time viewing very welcome comments and critiques on stuff i've posted.
