Fall's golden sunsets are on temporal hiatus
as amber's faded glow bears a change in status.
It's not yet Thanksgiving, but radio's airwaves
begin to saturate our minds with caroling raves.
We're besieged by retailer's buy-now innuendo,
glossy circulars espouse the latest Nintendo,
along with LCD flat-screens, picture phones,
MP3 players and blackberries with ring tones.
We're hopelessly lost in a maze of technology,
can't find our way, and we offer no apology.
A road atlas was often used to map our jaunts,
a must have now is a GPS that everyone flaunts.
Digital books are hot, printed novels are not.
Camcorders capture silly moments we forgot...
later posted on YouTube without Mom's blessing;
warm hugs tossed for video's window dressing.
Christmas was a time for a family celebration,
now it's an excuse to binge on every sensation.
Traditional melodies slowly smothered by greed,
we've become hi-tech charlatans, please take heed.
Thank you for your Holiday entry John!
Best of luck!
May the 'classic' holiday spirit be shared in your heart throughout the season!

Hi JLY~
I enjoyed the content of this poem. It is both humanly tangible and sophisticated in its language!
Good luck!
Bev
What a great poem for all five senses!! I loved this!! Particularly the Youtube line!! Really enjoyed it:)
How true John!
Love the last line : sadly, it sums up how drastically things have changed over the generations. What ever happened to bake something and enjoy the company?
Enjoyed!

Lori,
Thank you; unfortunately, the last line reflects my current perspective on the holiday season and in light of the recent crowds causing death and mayhem on Black Friday it seems to be all that more appropriate.
JLY
I can agree with that assessment, John.
This submission has been nominated as a finalist in the fifth annual Mosaic Musings Holiday Classic!
Best of luck!
