These lines....' Oh the gift he give us to see us as others see us' ? I thought it was Burns, but what I thought turn out to be Ode to a mouse....not with these lines....

Not sure on that Steve, but the quote by Burns is as follows;

"Oh, that God the gift would give us to see ourselves as others see us." - Robert Burns

and here's yet another version of the same quote by Burns:

"Oh would some power the gift give us, to see ourselves as others see us."

Hi Steve and Cleo,

You might like to see the quote in Burn's own dialect. I think it's kind of neat!

"Oh wad some po'or the giftie gie us, Tae see oorselves as others see us."

Lori and Peggy, That was what I thought, that it was Burns...I just couldn't fine the Quote when I was looking for it, many thanks, and Peggy I have read it in the original...lol, and heard it read by a Scotsman.

Dear Steve,
It's in the last stanza of To a LOUSE, (not a mouse). The To a Mouse has its own well known saying.
