Everything a little sparser
Parsley with its yellow edges
Purple thistle begins the fade
We have to pull the curled lettuce

And although the cone flowers
start to droop and drop
A stand of yellow autumn blooms
appears fiercely as if to protest

The cat begins to limp
in the early sun sink
September always when my heart
begins to break

Hi Deb,
Glad you had a lovely holiday! Autumn must be wonderful in Canada, before the hard winter sets in.

This poem is great. You've painted a picture of Autumn with delicate flashes of color and a view of some stubborn blooms that won't give way to Winter without a fight.

I think you must mean "to fade" in L3 of S1?

The ending implies upcoming sadness. I live in the S.H. and we're now slipping into Spring... Then perhaps a hot summer with very long days and maybe a drought.

Thanks for sharing this poem, we've missed you!

Stunning poem. September readily gets a pre visualisation head start with the acknowledgement that its a gateway to Autumn. Early sunk sun sounds more probable

Hi Debbie,

It's good to read your work again - you have been missed!

Everything a little sparser
Parsley with its yellow edges
Purple thistle begins the fade
We have to pull the curled lettuce

I love the play with 'sparser' and 'parsley'

And although the cone flowers
start to droop and drop
A stand of yellow autumn blooms
appears fiercely as if to protest

The cat begins to limp
in the early sun sink

Early sun sink sounds a little awkward - perhaps 'early sinking sun'
September always when my heart
begins to break

I know how you feel, September is goodbye to summer and I always feel sad at this time.

Hope to see you again soon

Eira

Weaver,

You give September its justice in my opinion. There could be many reasons for it but any of them will do with the way you put it.

Hi again, Debbie!
I see you've had several visits since I was last here.

So glad you've returned with this colorful poem. Hope you bring some more along soon.

I wonder why your cat begins to limp when Autumn is approaching. Just askin'...
I have cats on my mind because my own darling Scarlett disappeared recently, but fortunately turned up one midnight, slinking tiredly through my kitchen door. (I heard her meowing softly, as I was sitting right there and couldn't go to sleep worrying so much over her). She's an apartment cat, and now that I've moved to a cottage she just explores my small garden for 10 minutes or so, then runs inside at the slightest disturbance in my area.
Sorry, but I was so worried about her, that your cat sort jumped out of your poem at me. Hope she/he is OK.

Thanks again for sharing this lovely piece.
Best, Syl butterfly.gif
