A Star
The firelight from the hearth reflects
on tinseled tree aglitter with
small twinkling ornaments. Projects
the essence of a garnered myth
which lends no grace; no love or peace
to those in need, without a prayer.
No rescue from the cold, surcease
from widened need to give and share.
As choirs sing carols in the night
of precious babe, a star and kings;
a weeping mother knows the plight
of starving child. Her vigil brings
no solace. Tears, her visage mar,
illuminated by a star.
Thank you for your Holiday entry, Larry!
Best of luck!
May the 'classic' holiday spirit be shared in your heart throughout the season!

Congratulations Larry! A home truth that needed telling!
This small gem of a poem underlined the fact that there is no, 'Holiday' from want for vast tracks of the world.
Your poem said so much about the reality of the poverty, starvation and death we allow to continue, whilst we all try to out-do each other by spending gross amounts on trashy presents for our nearest and dearest.
A well deserved award.
Leo.
Thanks Leo,
I'm glad that I come here to read the new posts a few times a week. Otherwise, I would have never known that I had won the MMHC award. I got no emails and I don't believe there are any messages pertaining to this on my control board here either.
It's amazing what can be wrought from a X10 challenge.
Larry
CONGRATULATIONS, LARRY, FOR YOUR MMHC PRIZE!!!

Congratulations Larry
I thought I'd left my good wishes here weeks ago - sorry this is belated!
Well done all the same - I agree with Syl, your sonnets are wonderful!
