Poles Apart.

I’m positive I met a man the other day,
One clearly negative in every way.
As I could tell right from the start.
The two of us were really poles apart.

When first we connected via the Internet,
I cabled him to visit and so we met,
It proved to be a really poor connection,
For sparks flew in every known direction!

With my every argument negated
He failed to be positively motivated
I immediately fulminated! Blew a fuse!
That brought short his verbal abuse,

As this activated an under current
Which alternated with a direct deterrent,
I switched tactics to plug his flow;
Transformed his power trip from fast to slow

Being shocked by his constant negativity
With every reasoned argument of relativity
Wasted, I tried to ensure I was insulated,
Taking the line he was not positively motivated.

Since having conducted an ‘on-line’ survey
Of how matters came to be this way,
It was found contradictory polarity
Provided grounds to arrive at our disparity

As we’d broken our recent live connection
I wired him with a suggested positive correction.
That should he remain so negatively down to earth?
In Life, I’m positive, he’d generate little worth.

Hello Denis, congratulations on your excellent poem about an incorrigible neighbour. Surprised at your great rhyming and powerful message, with your ever present humor, despite the anger you were feeling.
Hope matters improved. I dislike negative people. When I feel down, I search for something to do, such as reading poems like yours or writing my own.
I'll return, enjoyed a lot, Sylvia

Truth to tell Sylvia, he turned out to be an absolute bounder. His wife - Lord only knows why she'd married him? - was a darling. He treated Her - Jean - like dirt! She deserved far better. I am one who "sees" or senses an aura when I meet people, but on this occasion I chose to ignore it. Foolish me! My hair was electrified and sparked for ages after meeting him a couple times - hence the poem, which I thought appropriate to describe my feelings and the highly tense atmosphere that enveloped me at the time. He left shortly afterwards - thank goodness. Later he Was replaced by one almost as bad! Such was the reward for my sins! Lol! Humour has always been a strong support for me through the years, and without it today, with my darling wife suffering the first signs of dementia, it is a crutch that is most needed by me. Stay safe and make the most of every day. They are finite! Fondest regards Denis. PS: Going to see what I can do with your 'words' - after breakfast. Ciao Denis.

Fine poem, Denis!

I'm surprised that as a Moderator, Sylvia didn't move it up the Herme's Homiles, where it belongs... along with a poem of mine that's never been commented on! LOL

Hello Denis, your lovely poem is now in Hermes' Homilies where, as I said before, rhyming and various other forms, such as sonnets, villanelles, etc., are posted. You'll find it just below the Introduce Yourself section at the top of this website. All the best, Sylvia

I loved the word play throughout this piece about your evidently mythical connection with someone over the internet that clearly didn't work out because of his "negativity" and all the sparks that flew over your own positivity. A very creative piece of rhyming poetry, Denis. deLightingly, Daniel sun.gif

Nothing mythical about this happening Daniel. I simply chose to use the Opposite Poles as a means/way to express the negativity of this individual.

Learned sometime afterwards that being obnoxious to all and sundry was a regular happening with him. He was regularly thrown out of restaurants and other estabishments for his obnoxious behavior! Sick in the head I would think. Some of the local businesses, banned him from entering their premises. Should he defy their ban? The police (on several occasions) were called to evict him. He was finally put under a restraining order. Takes all sortsd and he was one of a kind I have never, nor wish to encounter again! No doubt he had a severe mental problem. He ended up in an institution. Denis.

I'm not surprised that you encountered this person in actuality, Denis, as I've experienced this variety of individual myself. We've even has a few live with us over the years, and a couple of them were able to change their behavior patterns. deLighting in knowing about your experience, Daniel sun.gif
