Mother’s Side

An autumn’s blush lay moldering on biers
aflame with crimson tongues, whose embers fade
until their russet ruin disappears
beneath the ermine mantles winter made.

They’ve loosed the clutching hands which gave them life
and made their way into some place to find
that no one cares. Alone, though crowds are rife,
they show their colors to a world that’s blind.

Much like a child, whose knowledge far exceeds
those who would teach. That lonely journey starts
with letting go and spreading wings. This leads
them down the path of their demise. Brave hearts,

there is no place as safe as mother’s side
and few know if you lived or how you died.

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Kindness is a seed sown by the gentlest hand, growing care's flowers.
