The Art of Love (A rewrite)
How does one attain the love of a lady? By writing poetry? No, no! Writing poems would be worst of all! This is what my old friend Ovid said, quote Book 2, The Art of Love:
“Would you be well advised to send her love-poems? Poetry, I fear, is held in low esteem. Girls praise a poem, but go for more expensive presents….”
Therefore, good friend, she would hate mine…. I might give her a gown, made of scratchy wool... A belt of straw, and ivy buds--
Ah, here’s a necklace for only $19.99 from the Home Shopping Network. Ladies, I’m teasing; you deserve much more; let me fetch my wallet.

well I don't agree. Sentimental poetry wins out before $$ in my case :) but money would be a close second, though ( ha ha )

Okay, Karen; I suppose I must rewrite this again--till it suits you ladies; But I'll remain a miser when it comes to money, lol. (Not really, I just made a $50 donation toward a worthy cause.) Thanks for reading and commenting. Jerry QUOTE (anaisa @ May 23 11, 09:54 ) well I don't agree. Sentimental poetry wins out before $$ in my case :) but money would be a close second, though ( ha ha )

Jerry, I think I must agree with Karen, poetry is something a lady can treasure forever, whereas moey is gone i a moment. But seeing as how I bought my wife a gold necklace in Turkey (not the home shopping channel) for $250.00 and it has been valued since at over $2000.00 I'd have to say that it was money well spent. I have written many a poem about her, for her, and to her, sometimes changing a description or two. LOL.
Take Care Steve

Well Steve; it was tongue in cheek, and I drew freely form Ovid. But that you side with Karen--well!
She is a nice lady--but could I really afford her expensive tastes? I'm more inclined to give ladies some of my handcrafted gifts...no, I'm teasing, for I have known her for many years. Thanks for writing, Steve. So glad you showed. Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry This was amusing reading. I've never had a poem written for me -- it might be very romantic. You mention giving handcrafted gifts -- well that could be romantic too, if you make something especially for someone... but as Karen says - it's nice to have some money to spend too LOL! A very original poem Snow

Hi, Eisa; so glad you commented; yes, I try to add humor to my poems; it doesn't always pan out, but it's always fun to see what will stick, lol. It's true, giving something from the heart is rewarding, even to this old tightwad. And who knows--maybe someone will write a lovely poem for you. Thanks, Eisa; best regards, Jerry

Oh-oh--STEVE, I left myself open on this one. I concur with you; it's safer for me to post a "How to Write Poetry" tip for Eisa's husband. I, too, have someone watching over my conduct on this site; apologies where needed. Currently I'm learning to juggle, lol. PS Did I forget to thank you for your comment? Sorry for the oversight.
