Unfinished Aspirations

Un-discarded projects
gathering dust on cluttered garage shelves.
Though time and circumstance have been cruel,
hope stays tenacious.

Un-crystallized ideas,
pushed to the back of musty cupboards.
Stained curtains and shoeboxes of scraps
stealing their limelight.

Unfinished Poetry
withers like seedlings awaiting rain.
Left neglected, it remains forever
scribbles on paper.

Days drift past un-seized
until our river of tomorrows runs dry.
If hindsight were bequeathed, would dreams become
foregone conclusions?

Hey Wally, I just posted a belated "see you soon" in Basilica, and now I found your new poem!
I believe in some sort of magic, I think. Coz nobody else has had time to reply here.. It's the Spirit Guides winging their way around these forums, yes!

This piece has not been left to wither on bits of paper, nor awaiting rain like seedlings.
It's a lovely poem, Wally. I shall now grab some grub to see whether it helps me to unravel the meaning of your finale. I appreciate the question and its deep connotations, but there are dreams...and there are dreams. Mine tend to be terribly cluttered with things, people, creatures and events, not all of which I'd want to materialize. Hmmm.....

Peace, Syl***

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.

Wally, wonderful stuff here. I am glad I helped inspire this, it feels very comfortable, like a thread bare chair that you just don't want to part with. The last stanza is my favorite and very deep and profound. If indeed we could go back would we Carpe Diem or would we go on as we did before. And if we did change things how much ripple effect would that have back toward the future, would we even live the same lives? What if? The biggest little word in English 'if'. Thanks for helping me ponder a bit this evening.

Steve

Nice poem. It's a feeling that I'm sure we all, as writers, have had at some point. Or, if you're lazy like me, then every bloody day. I like the way the first three stanzas all started with "Un-" Just a small thing but it as a nice touch I feel. Not entirely sure about 'hope stays tenacious' - it's just a very awkward image for me. Otherwise it flows well. Good write.
