Farewell Party

Over with the love affairs,
stunt the youngsters' growth;
summer is no more.
Gone is the reckless exuberance
that drove bees out in droves
and eave-hanging hornets
delivering this year’s paper homes.

It’s a time of rest, decision
and preparation
as things slow and still
and the earth settles into
whispering contemplation,
should the long days stay or go?

But time of slumber is not yet,
a chance for one last hurrah
with pumpkin-stashed party clothes,
to be shredded and flailed
as north wind’s angry confetti
in a whirl, one last illustriousness
before they, like we,
from higher expectations -
fall.

Excellent Autumn post - just perfect for our 'Tumblig Sienna' seasonal book David!

LOVE this:
as things slow and still
and the earth settles into
whispering contemplation,

Awesome!

David,
this does sum up the end of summer, and beginning of fall. Time to regroup and move on. Last stanza is the rallying cry.

Cleo:

I'm glad you can use this. If I can think of more Autumn themed verse, I'll let you know. :)

BTW, I forgot an " ' " after youngsters. Have added it just now, in case you copied it into MS Publisher already.

Yes, one last hurrah! Throw that party of all parties. Invite 3,000 people, or was it 4,000 in that little Christmas gathering of yours in NY?

David
