Winter's Dream
Silence.
The dark wood sleeps,
locked in ice and solitude,
dreaming….

Silence.
The night wind prays,
breathless and still,
dreaming….

Silence.
The snowflakes fall
through moonlit mist
and shadowed hall,
dreaming….

Silence,
I pray thee.
Walk softly here
and wake me not,
for I am winter,
dreaming.

Dear Elaine,
For me there is a serene feeling about this piece. Yet on several readings I find it harsh too, and believe that perhaps the word "silence" is for me the reason. Perhaps I've watched too much TV, but "silence" ! sounds like an threatening order rather than a means of showing the quietude and solemnity of the night.
The dreamy aire about it is captivating.
Nicely done.
Cheers,     jgd
