Hi, Lori

One of the joys of the Ikonboard site was that when one clicked on a tile in "latest posts" one was transported to the first posting that one had not already read. Here, I seem to go to the top of the first page. On many threads that is not a problem, but on others that carry on for a while, all that scrolling is a reet pain. I can see there is a "last post" option, but then one may have to scroll up several posts ...

Is there a way to deal with this?

Fran

Hello Fran.

To go to the last post made using the View New Posts search - just click on the 'Last post by:' link located in the column heading: LAST ACTION in your list.

For example, I can see that Cathy last posted in the Topic Title: Midnight Odyssey ~ Revised, in the forum: Herme's Homilies and the Last Action is: Today, 07:16 AM (my board time). All I need to do to get to the last post in that topic is to click on the "Last Post By" link right there (not her name though).

OR

click on the little box to the left of the Topic Title in the Topic Title column. Note: Once you have read it, you will not see the box again for that particular topic.

On another note:

If you are in a forum, i.e. Herme's Homilies, whenever there is a new reply to a topic, you will see a little box to the left of the Topic Title. If you click on that box it will bring you to that post in the topic.

The same is true on the index page, that little box to the left of the last post date field in the LAST POST INFO box will bring you to the 'last post' made in that category of forums.

Hope this info helps! Read.gif

Hi Lori

Thanks, that is helpful, but I don't think I explained my question clearly enough.

Imagine an example:

I visit the site before breakfast and someone has posted a new poem. There are several replies. I read them all (in fact there are 7, but I won't remember that all day). When I next visit, an argument has started and there are 15 replies in total, covering 2 pages.

If I click on the tile I am at the top of page 1 (and scroll down till I find where I had gotten to before) OR I click latest post and then have to scroll UP to that point.

On Ikonboard when one clicked on a thread somehow something (a "cookie"?) "remembered" how much was read and would take one back to the very next addition (in my example, that would be post #8).

I understood your query Fran.

If you click the little box next the topic title it will bring you to your last unread post in that topic.

I'll check with Peter but that is how it should work.

Peter hasn't found anything on this one.

Unfortunately, that is one of the differences between the two boards and we cannot change it.

Here's an idea:

Have you tried clicking on the FORUM instead of the new post in the 'View New Posts' search results? I'll try that. When you are in the actual forum, you should see those little boxes I mentioned.

I'll check that out....

Yes - I just did a test and this will work as another option:

Because I have set up most of the forum (except the Showcases) to display the posts by LAST Post in descending order, if you click on the forum name in the 'View New Posts' results instead of an actual post, when it brings you to the forum, you will now see all those little boxes to the left of each topic title (set by cookies to your id).

The topics with the boxes are the posts that have new replies (or are new posts). If you then go and click on the little box, it will bring you to your last unread post in that topic.

Please give that a try. I just tested it with 'Stonehenge'. In the view new posts list, I see that Steve replied to my post titled, "Believe". Instead of clicking on the topic, I clicked the forum. WHen it brought me into Stonehenge, I then clicked the box (goto last unread) and it brought me to Steve's post (since I had read the others previously).

Can you test this too please?

THX
Lori

PHEW!

OK, I did a second test too on a tile that I knew I hadn't yet read the most recent replies on.

In the list, I clicked on the forum name: The Acropolis to look at Cathy's flash response topic, title: " MM Flash 25 ~ Cathy". In the forum, I clicked the little box and it brought me to post #5, which was my own reply as that is the last one I read in her topic. There are 6 more replies since my last visit to Cathy's tile so this idea may work better for us.

Hi Lori

It took me a while to work it out, but I have now got there and it does seem to work.

As the system can obviously DO this, is there any way we can make it automatic? It is quite fiddly to have to go into a forum first.
