The New Chef
Another busy day at the Roman Senate was coming to a close. Julie C., was waiting outside for L. Cassius Longinus, M. Junius Brutus, M. Antonius, C. Octavius, and Augustus. He bade them welcome and asked them to come to dinner, as he had just employed a new chef and was interested in their humble opinions.
Later that evening, after a soiree with some of the ladies, they sat down to dinner, not knowing what to expect. The appetizer came out in the arms of lovely young ladies of the household, steaming plates of spagatini googootz. Brut extolled, how delicious it was. Next came several plates of mellanzane, spinaci, and scharola, bathed in olio oglio, with plenty of aglio. The Senators were in their glory.
This was accompanied by a side dish of funghi. All washed down by large decanters of peshe. For dessert there were bowls of figs and uva, expertly put in our mouths by the young ladies. They literally fell asleep in their chairs after this big meal. No cigars tonite.
The next day, at the Senate, Julie, asked all his guests about the dinner, and in unison they all said BAM.
The above food terms are in the Italian dialect vernacular, since we all know the language is derived from Latin.
Translations will be forthcoming.
