FIRST LOVE

They stripped in the rain,
ensnared by Spring’s magnetism,
eager for that primal,
inconceivable
kiss.

Moist embraces,
cloudbursts full of pauses,
his lips on her skin
and the strum of robust reeds
swaying over undefiled
pastures.

As snowdrops triumph
over winter’s reign,
passion sprouted
from their virgin
bodies.

A gust of guileless wind
swept seeds born of desire
over fertile prairies
espying candid
caresses.

Cherry blossoms
and songbirds
reveled in youth’s enchantment.
Even Earth’s allure
was enhanced by the ardour
of that once chaste,
irretrievable
Spring.

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.
