Colors

As Winter bares her crystal claws,
which hang like daggers from the eaves,
I dress in layered wool because
I know her chilling breath deceives
with promises. Her silvered cowl
envelopes all the world around
my neighborhood. Cold winds may howl
but they are just an empty sound
made by a season on the verge
of death. New buds appear on trees
and soon they will begin to purge
that pallid face. Spring will appease
with all the colors God has made
and heal our eyes with crowns of jade.

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

Beautiful and well-constructed winter contemplation, Larry. I love sonnets in tetrameter, and you've done them a service.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for stopping by for a read and for the compliment. This last Winter blast that came to southeast Louisiana was hard to take. It's supposed to be warmer than that. Snow and sleet on the ground and icicles hanging off the eaves may have a place in Winter but it ain't the South. Hope you all are surviving these Canadian fronts that keep coming down to visit. They are probably playing hell with your knees. Keep warm and stay safe.

Larry

Thanks, Larry.

Yes, it was very cold and icy here for a while, but thankfully we presently have a break. Right now it's 50 degrees, and it's supposed to reach 59 in a couple of days, but of course it drops to around or even below freezing most nights. We're probably a little ABOVE normal right now.

And you're right about my knees. They've been very stiff, and my recovery has been slower than I had hoped, but it IS progress, and I'm thankful for that. I'm still hoping that at length I'll be able to be more mobile than I have been during the past couple of years.

Still growing passionfruit, Larry pinkpanther.gif

Mate your opening is a stunner "icicle claws"

Then drop into a piece of introspection...

To finish off...farewell to the stark disclosures white

Enter the Jade green of spring.

You have not lost your touch.

Regards,

John
