~Once upon a Christmas Eve~
The ebony sky was starlit,
reindeer and sleigh in sight.
All adorned in lights a-twinkle,
soft reflection on snow of white.
Inside the tree's aglitter,
little ones tucked in their beds.
Cookies and milk on the table,
ready for the big man in red.
In moments the air grew hazy,
breathing was so very hard to do.
Smoke from the dying fire,
was quickly engulfing the room.
We hurriedly raised all windows,
threw open wide all our doors,
clouds billowed out portals,
misty-grey in the darkened moors.
Checked the flue, it was open,
looked oe'r wires and plugs to the tree.
Doused the fire with water,
haze rolling til I couldn't see!
Going out to take a peek,
all seemed fine to me...
lo and behold! Up on the roof,
Santa was stuck in our chimney!
