Sunset and Sunrise

Each night he draped her shoulders with a lei
of red or mauve with streaks of gold and blue
depending on her mood and how the day
progressed. Somehow it seemed he always knew;
but were he not enamored in this way,
he would have recognized his gift each morn
protecting dawn to hold the chill at bay
from infant child as each new babe is born.

My muse is on vacation; I don't know
if she'll be back. Perhaps I'll have to show
how much I need her help so I can write...
by simply throwing out some crap like this,
continuing my lately-hit-or-miss.
I'll show her that I need her spark to flow
with something beautiful and apropos
instead of stumbling on with stuff that's trite.

Thoughts in a Storm

Light mists which coalesced to tiny drops…
Could this be prelude to that promised rain
or merely Nature’s taunt to dying crops?
A timpani turns to crescendoed pain
as lightening now stomps with hobnailed boots
across the undulating clouds. Insane
sparks fly as if the sun were growing roots;
yet there, in awestruck wonder, I remain.

ya've eight lines fer paintin' a picture
restored from French countryside sherds.

if only ta rid yer frustrations.

We have nine cats and most are Siamese
except for one grey-striped who got the lees
of some recessive gene, a dormant quirk
which doesn’t roil our kitty colony’s
demeanor but for Apricot and he’s
the alpha male; a red-point and a jerk.
With one exception, they’re all fixed or male;
Blue Manx-Blue Point “Bleu-Dini” with no tail.

All Hallows Eve; that night is nearly here
when Christian people of a common faith
will celebrate with ghoul and ghost and wraith
by proffering free candies out of fear
to children squealing, “Trick or treat”! We hear
their voice in neighborhoods that still believe
the spirits of dead Saints will oft appear
