When your head aches with hardening strokes
it is not good to shove it in spokes
just to make the pain stop.
It will only increase how it hurts
and you'd likely be scared by the spurts
that come forth from the top.

Those who run that come forth from the top
get a prize but it’s only a sop
and it comes with no fame
but those coming in first will attest
that the feeling is grand and the best
thing is all know their name.

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy

If they all know your name, what's the point
of your running so hard? Won't your joints
pay the price for such work?
It is better to walk, or just ride;
you can handle the shot at your pride.
Just relax; learn to shirk.

Some people just relax, learn to shirk
if they’re wealthy and don’t have to work
and their fortune’s complete
but the same can be said of the folk
who are homeless and poor. It’s no joke
when you live on the street.

If you live on the street, watch for trucks;
you could savagely be out of luck
if they run you right down.
It is better to sleep on the wayside
and just watch out for parking alongside
of your road out of town.

On your road out of town look for me,
I’m the one with my thumb out for free
rides to places you’ll drive
and with no expectations, you’ll find
I’ve no true destination in mind
but know when I arrive.

I'm not sure if I know how to get
where I'm going, but still do not fret;
I am sure we'll arrive
where our destiny will become clear
and the joy of our work will appear,
and our faith will revive.

Will our faith revive interest in verse
on this site or will it get much worse
when the stalwart depart
after more than a decade among
those who cared that the songs which were sung
reached into every heart.

Reach into every heart with a thought
written down, which your muses have caught
on a synapse or two
in your brain. You refrain from the task
and I don’t think it’s too much to ask
that you share it. Do you?

Are you telling me that I don't share?
Are you yanking the last of my hair
just to get me to write?
I am doing the best that I can
even though I have nary one fan!
Please don't be so uptight!

“Please don’t be so uptight!”, you request
so I’ll tell you I’m trying my best
to just go with the flow
but sometimes when one gets to our age
I discover myself in a rage
and for why, I don’t know.
