I've grasped the morning mist in search of God.
I've tried dissecting sunlight and have found
no joy. I'm told that it's amazing grace
that steers the blessed few to Holy Ground.

But what of us? We're damned by unbelief.
We're sure there's more and sure it can't be less
but what it is, without some faith, none know.
And I, a Doubting Thomas, will not guess.

Hi Jax,

I’ve been pondering your post for a couple of weeks now and as far as your syntax, meter and rhyme scheme, I can see nothing on which I might critique. That all looks great.

Now, the age old question about a supreme deity is something else. I’ve researched and even tried a few different “religious” denominations and have found that none of them have any kind of positive proof for such an entity. All are based on faith and/or belief and often pound on large tomes and expound on what is said in them. All of them totally ignore science and astronomical discoveries. Creation by an all-knowing and all-seeing superior being is questionable unless that process was started by said being through the “Big Bang” and left to the vagaries of time and space.

Creation is still ongoing in stellar nebulae as is extinction through the process of black holes, stars going nova and galactic collisions on a daily basis so it is hard to reconcile the metaphysical posturings of church leaders versus science. I’m not saying anyone is wrong but believe there is a lot more to it than “Let There Be Light”.

I, too, might be considered a “Doubting Thomas” but I am still looking for some kind of answer that may get me out of my comfort zone. Thanks for the mental exercise you have afforded any and all who might stumble into MM for a read.

Larry

Greetings, Jax.

I agree with Larry that your poetic contribution is about as perfect in form as it could be. I also leave my heart open to anyone who struggles with "belief" and "grace" and all those religious phenomena. It's interesting that Doubting Thomas became the spreader of the Gospel into India and gave his life for his transformed belief there.

Anyhow, I think of a story I've told of talking with one of my fellow-soldiers just before the two-mile run in our annual diagnostic Physical Training Test (the one six months before our PT Test for Record). He was talking about his struggle with believing that God existed. We were interrupted to go and run the two miles. Half way through, he had a heart attack. Yes, it was a die agnostic test.

I'm sorry, Jax. Of course the story wasn't true, but I couldn't resist.
