A Rose Can Cry

The rosebud is drenched with morning dew
so that a single teardrop falls.
            When given to a lover,
             the petals shiver with
                  anticipation,
               breathing a sigh.
                  Who said a
                    rose can't
                        cry?

         Petals breathe a sigh of
            "heartfelt reverence"
              A rose can't cry?
                  Was it you?
                     Wasn't
                         I.

A Writer's Thought

Choose those words that best fit your message;
twirl a concept into a poem,
fashion a short story or
novel filled to enthuse
the psyche and soul.
Expressions will
flow forth to
suit your
self.

Here's an INVERSE nonet from a recent challenge I just responded to today:

Weak Tea

brew
weakly
with finesse
and you'll avoid
physical pounding
in either chest or mind
and prevent your entering
global emergency treatment
or a close call for caffeine overdose

© MLee Dickens'son 2013

a challenge of 10 words, in order: brew, weak, finesse, (a)void, physical, mind, enter, global, treatment, close

Wow Daniel,

I'm so glad you brought this form to the forefront with your post and I'm impressed that you did so in a challenge format. I had never seen this poetic exercise before (or noticed it). From looking at the post dates, it has seen no action since '05 and that was before I joined MM so I went back to the beginning and read all the posts. The one that intrigued me the most was the "acrostic / nonet". Loving a challenge, I thought I'd try my hand at one of these and jump in with both feet with an inverse double acrostic nonet. So, as Merlin is wont to say: "here 'tis!"

Seasonal Shapes

Tree Shape of my Nonet

to
re-leaf
each tiny stem
every spring may
stress roots to obtain
handy food sources, so
all of them grow in autumn
providing the tree room to store
enough food for their new green bonnet

In Verse Upright Explanation

a planned acrostic if describing the form

a
placid
lake’s image
and reflections
needs bits of cryptic
notes for each border,
enclosing the line’s loci;
designating a style we dub
acrostics in double nonets. I
challenge any writer, if and when
rearranging constructs, to bring
open minds, tremendous wit,
sagacity that’s paired with
tactfulness and care
in what’s said if
class must go
in your
form

Daniel,
I've been working on this for nearly a month because an idea flashed in my mind when I read your answer to a challenge. Thought I'd use the same words and do a double acrostic with them. Hope that was okay.

Larry

Great job, Larry... and of course it's okay!!

My only suggestion for ANY poem that's an acrostic, however, is that the acrostic be its TITLE, thus...

TO REFRESH AND REDUCE

Here's another double acrostic you might enjoy.

poem title is the skin

On Hula Parties

poi

oozes

escapes pot

making a splash

that helps luaus be

interesting and keeps

the inner fires lit. Men think

loose grass skirts are an alibi

encouraging them to join the fun.

Puppy Love

Long live the days of adoration,
of sights set above their station
where the heart of each creature
is its only teacher.
The reason I say that
is my dog's love,
isn't a glove
its my...
cat.
