Azaleas

From burgundy to steely grey they bloom
like stars but never sparkle in the night.
Small buds crowd through those galaxies for room
to add their hues. They tax each branch’s might,

infusing bright kaleidoscopes. What task
each bud and flower undertakes in Spring
before new leaves appear! Azaleas mask
their barren limbs with rainbowed shades which bring

a lovely change to brown and dreary space
left by the winter’s chill. I recollect
my time spent twenty years ago. Our place
was wild and gardening was circumspect

but seeds and snips of plants were sown and grew
into an Eden that I never knew.

Thanks Daniel!

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

Hi Lori,

Thanks for the visit and the nice words. I'm glad it made you wish for Spring. It's been like that down here in the south for some time.

My wife's dad planted various colors along the road at our place so we have a very nice rainbow of colors now but the woods are slowly creeping back in to reclaim that area and I don't have the time or energy to cut back the encroaching forest.

Hope you are feeling better and getting along with your physical therapy for your foot. Hope you will be back soon to your old self and join the few of us left here.

Take care,

Larry
