Like Alexander Supertramp
I went for the wild
yet seemingly normal
and satiating root;
secure in its attractive
and similar copy.

Minute details lost
in naive necessity.
Gamely gorging
as your poison took hold;
essential nutrients
smothered and lost.

Imperceptible at first,
this slow starvation;
sinews twist and shrink
to their final wasteland.

Bottom moments
left only to gaze
upon patches of sky;
the heavens calling
from my own terrain
of wilderness.

I haven't seen this movie (or read the book) but your words are very stark, Isis. Is this about a snake attacking their prey or perhaps a lion pride? I can also see this as a metaphor to a relationship gone sour, or a new one in which the main character here goes out on a limb, shreading their 'old persona' for something a bit more 'wild'.

Enjoyed the read,
~Cleo

Hi Cleo

yes this is about a relationship gone sour...but i like your other interpretations better...lol...check out the movie...

this poem has been heavily critiqued, mostly negatively, as it doesnt state enough to compare to Chris McCandless's spirit, and not universal enough for all to relate in one way or another...and i agree...but i like it the way it is, and think i wont re-write, but who knows?

thanks for your reply..

Hi Isis,

This is a very stark and haunting poem with fantastic alliteration! I feel the nature/struggle in your words and like Lori, interpret this as something more. (that's the beauty of poetry...right?)

Imperceptible at first,

.

Exquisite! I look forward to reading more of your work.

Stark detail with great impact. I almost felt that I was starting a chapter of Sherlock Holmes (Doyle). Clipped quips, inferrence dependant upon the readers knowledge base make the write all but irresistable to learn more of your subject. Maybe a little specialized, but a read to my liking and taste.
