When all the night is dark and calm
notions of ghouls and goblins take wing
floating on the Screech Owls' song
disembodied voices softly sing

Te-wit Te-woo, Te-wit Te-woo, But!
As they swoop through the shrouding sky -
They are not alone - there are witches
On broomsticks above human eye.

Their soundless flight - approaching doom
for mortals unprepared to die!
Is joined by zombies, spooks and
All Halloween Horrors than can fly!

And yet, this body-viewpoint thing :
That all free spirits MUST be feared.
Not so! There are friendly ghosts -
Among the dangerous and weird.

They wait upon the midnight hour
when All Saints Day is ushered in.
Their annual celebration
has begun: time of mortal sin!

They breath a chill down the crook of your neck
when the wind blows - is it only cold air?
Or warmest love, so coolly expressed -
I want to know, "Is anybody there ..... ?"

Watching over hopeful people,
The spirits think of their reply.
The answer arrives on the wailing wind
as Death heaves a whispering sigh.

Rusty toll-bells clank an aged peal
And the undead release their hell-hounds
Who leap right up to the creaking gate
But stop. Further's out of bounds !

What's that I see? In front of me...
a mummy, a witch and a ghost?
Silly be, they don't scare, they plea...
Trick or treat! Who'll get the most?

Meanwhile, underground in the crypt,
Vampyres are ready for a Hard Day's Night.
But this is no camp Hollywood script;
Look at those teeth - ooh they really bite!

So much to face, so much that's been faced:
We now report, truly, the death of fear.
Decay and dread have a smell and taste -
Miss them not - they deserve not one tear.

But now I must be off to scare
Old ladies wearing  grey hair
Better fill my sack with delights
or gonna give them a case of the frights
