Nurse's Day

To care when there is no one else around,
or lend a helping hand to ease each pain
is surely God’s great blessing that is found
in someone just like you. You will remain

within the minds and hearts forevermore
of those in need. A beacon in the night,
you shine your light upon the rich or poor
and find a way of sharing in their fight.

Some set aside one day to honor you
with praise or gifts and yet, abundantly,
you give of self for years. Would that your due
was celebrations every day. You’ll be

remembered in our praise and prayers each day
and loved for every smile you give away.

Happy Nurse's Day on the 6th and Nurse's Week the 6th through 12th.
Larry

What a lovely tribute to all nurses, everywhere, Larry!

Sadly, at this moment it brings to mind the bombing of a hospital in Syria, where many nurses and doctors were killed. Quite recently.

Love this sonnet, with all that it implies. Do carers qualify? I've spent half of my married life caring for immediate family loved ones. Two sons and then my husband until he passed away in 2015.

I hope you use Plato's Pearls of Wisdom many times.

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

I agree with Syl, Larry. You should post some of your beautiful sonnets in this forum.

This is a wonderful tribute to nurses worldwide. Great read!

Hi Syl & Snow,

Thank you both for dropping by for a read. I'm really glad someone did!

The reason I posted here is I didn't feel like any crits were needed and I probably wouldn't have agreed with any of them anyhow.

Syl, yes, those who care are included. You don't have to have a degree to be that type person. If you nurse someone or something without needing or wanting remuneration for doing so, you are, in fact a nurse. Snow, this goes for you too with your snakes and dog. Loving care is difficult to find these days and those who share that gift demand recognition from others whether they receive it or not.

As far a posting my sonnets here, I never thought of doing so and just put the finished product in my showcase. I guess I could post them here too. Wouldn't hurt!

Thanks once more for the visit and the nice words.

Larry

Hi again, Larry,

Yes, I agree with Eisa that you should post some of your sonnets in this forum.
They seldom need any adjusting, so they deserve to be here.
On the other hand, more people might view them in Herme's.

Glad to know that you include a wide variety of nurses in your tribute. Sometimes one finds oneself in a situation that requires good, loving care. Instinct contributes to one's learning, without that sort-after degree. Unfortunately, some people run away from the atmosphere that illness inevitably creates in the family home. So those of us who take over, as well as the sick person, have to learn how to throw a little humor into the experience.

Eisa is doing a magnificent job with her new greyhound Maggie. You know greyhounds are abandoned or put to sleep when they're not useful anymore for racing. That's between 4 or 5 years old. Those that are saved by organizations need rehabilitation and adaptation to their new homes. And the new owners, like Eisa and her family, have to be very patient and loving for at least a month. It's called socializing them. So sad to think of all the ones that die without ever enjoying freedom from racing...

Thank you, Larry, for your kind words, as well as your beautiful sonnet.
