Rainbow hued, upside down, clamped tightly to twigs, mauve bobbing heads, beaks chattering; busily drawing out nectar. Chunks of red bottlebrush floating and falling. Lawn magically turned into a botanic carpet of red and green.

Hi John! :)
I LOVE Lorikeets! Course, why wouldn't I since they have Lori in their name!
I went to Australia back in Nov, 1993 and had the pleasure of seeing them up close and personal! Beautiful birds! A bit annoying, but pretty to look at!
We visited an animal sanctuary in the Gold Coast (I forgot the name, something like Currumbin Sanctuary) and while there, they were doing a feeding of the birds and National Geographic was filming in teh sanctuary for a special. Since I was the foreigner, they asked me to be on film and asked why I liked the birds. It was a HOOT, but I never noticed if I made it on the tv show! :cali: :alien2:
When we went to Great Barrier Reef, to Brampton Island, Lorikeets were everywhere! We opened the slider to the deck of our room and about 8 of them flew inside! They'd just come right over and sit on my shoulder (WILD ones). So, I teased them back outside with...YEP - you guessed it _ what does this Lori like most? SUGAR! I'd open sugar packets from the coffee supplies and then walk 'em back out! Very funny! You HAD to be there!
Anyway - I'd like to suggest a stanza break on your piece below. You could also add to the edn something like, As the feathers fall.?
Lovely! ~Cleo :pharoah:

I found the first 5 lines very interesting because of the way you punctuated. it a different twist which delighted me.
suggestion: you change tense here and there. specifically L1, L2, and L8.
other than that I wouldn't change a thing! I would kill to see this. my parents house used to attract bluebirds and cardinals daily but nothing compared to this. :cloud9:

You come to read poetry and you are taught a nature lesson. How wonderful. Love nature, love your words of wit. Thanks for sharing.
