Memories of an earlier time of my life,
that was occupied with anything but strife.
Childhood days when I shouldn't have gotten a day older,
seems like each - I dare you act kept getting bolder.

Jumping from a railroad trestle into the sand below,
when my legs forgot which way they should go.
Landing quite solidly upon my rump,
have to tell you, it was quite a thump.

Couldn't sit down for about a week,
but did that end my dare-devil streak?
Riding a bike down a steep hill, not knowing the stakes,
and especially not knowing that there were no brakes.

At the bottom of the hill, a stop sign, and 4 lane highway,
as you can tell by now, I didn't die that day.
Fortunately for me there wasn't a vehicle in sight,
that one did bring about a little fright.

Running under a low roof, year after year,
not realizing I'd finally get taller you hear.
Left quite a goose egg on the top of my head,
if I had been running much faster, could have been dead.

Same type of thing, acting like a fool,
diving in to the shallow end of the pool.
I had also been doing that for many years,
maybe that thump on my head damaged its gears.

Yes, I survived the memories of my childhood days,
and can't believe that I ever survived always.
Now safe and sound, writing poetry about every deed,
the most dangerous thing now is to let the critics read....
