Hey Rapid-Fire,

This piece has got some pace.
I reached the end real quick,
but to get the joke I had to think.
Where's that parrot when I need him,
to describe my face
when I read the closing?

Okay, I give, bring back the ship! laugh.gif

I heard a tale today that I'll relay to you,
about a magician and his parrot during World War II.
He traveled around the world with the USO,
from ship to ship to do his magic show.

However, after every single trick,
his parrot would talk real quick.
He told the secret behind everyone,
including shooting a dove out of a gun.

The magician told him not to say a word,
he did not want his secrets overheard.
But the parrot paid no attention to what he said,
though the magician said he might wind up dead.

I'll get even with you one day you'll see,
then you'll be sorry you didn't heed me.
The magician peformed one he hadn't seen before,
but he still blurted out the details once more.

He grabbed that parrot by the neck,
and whirled him around very quick.
But an enemy torpedo found its mark,
and everything on the ship went dark.

He let the parrot fly away,
and started swimming, he couldn't stay.
He knew the ship would soon go down,
and he sure couldn't swim to town.

He spotted a lifeboat nearby,
said I can make it if I try.
When he reached it and pulled hisself in,
there sat that parrot to his chagrin.

For two days they floated and wouldn't speak,
without no food, they were getting weak.
The first words from the parrot happened to slip,
Okay, I give up,  now where's that ship??

Hi Jim,

Funny you mentioned the reefs, I happen to have a piece on the greatest reefs of them all, named One Tree Island, in Homer's Homilies. No mentioning of ships there though! :)
