A Summer Day

Morning, gathering the senses,
half lost in yesterday’s exhaustion,
half used in the dreams’ dances.

Muffled, I awake;
it is after all another day.
This one is clean, a brand new start,
a young beginning, and I ask it to stay.

But it follows the sun’s race
and noon passes, leaving the space after.
Mooring, hot and dragging,
I should be fresh but find myself lacking.

Marooned, I crawl along patiently
until it comes finally, it came.
The sun’s gone done quietly;
the welcoming coolness sits so tame;

Mollified, I’m winding for another,
for tomorrow lay just yonder,
the promises it brings…
From summer night’s silent mother
come slobbering newborn babes.
