The Night Before
The fire was nice; it warmed the hands and face
while casting shadows on the old brick walls
of family and friends. We all said grace
for what was gathered from the local malls
that afternoon before the night turned cold.
We ate, and some of us retired to bed
while others watched the pageantry unfold
in church; the star, the Babe, the wine and bread.
Then back along the gaily lighted street
to that dark alleyway where we all live.
The rusty barrel still retained some heat;
like us, there’s not much else that it can give.
Just love and care… some comfort in our plight
and thank the Lord for grace throughout His night.
Sorry Lori, I seem to be hogging this forum.
Thank you for your Holiday entry, Larry!
We have to hold this one off until we get to December 6th, as that is when you can submit more than two if the ideal sumission count does not reach 50 before then. I love this - do not delete please.
May the 'classic' holiday spirit be shared in your heart throughout the season!
