Honey, do string some lights on the house and around the yard,
now quit complainin', it's not all that hard.
Oh, hang some mistletoe, and trim the tree,
why do you hate doing a little bit for me?
You know that I don't ask all that much,
spray the tree for a real snowy touch.
One more time you should mow the lawn,
you can do that tomorrow right after dawn.
Now really, I don't ask all that much from you,
helping me out a little is the least you can do.
I know, the least you can do is your exact thought,
you should be very thankful that it isn't hot.
You know in warm weather there's lots more to do,
but now I'm only asking you to do a few.
Oh, can you go buy some replacement Christmas lights,?
some will need replacing after two or three nights.
And while you're out, get a loaf or bread or two,
no cantaloupe or watermelon, but grab a 'HONEYDEW'..............

I heard some kids plotting just the other day,
about capturing Santa and all the toys in his sleigh.
They're rigging an alarm to know when he lands,
and they're sure he'll play right into their hands.
They know that his radar won't give them away,
and they'll be successful before Christmas Day.
They'll have Santa, his sleigh, toys, and reindeer too,
but then I'm wondering, what will they do?
They don't know the secret of how he flys,
and couldn't get it right in a million tries.
So I guess they'll let him return to his route,
right after they've taken their favorite toys out.

Celebrate Christ, the Christmas season begins,
He was sent to earth to save us from our sins.
Sent to us from God up above,
the ultimate display of His love.

Walking this earth, and then He died,
imagine the tears that Mary cried.
Though she knew it was God’s plan,
to wash away the sins of man.

You know that it would not be right,
to forget to celebrate Him tonight.
Be sure you don’t turn Him away,
He will help you not to stray.

We all know that He did no wrong,
to be put to death by an angry throng.
But He will walk among us all once more,
when we reach the other side of Heaven’s door.

Christmas is getting too commercialized,
long ago we should have realized.
It’s advertising everything all season long,
but where did it all start going wrong?

For one, ole Santa should share the blame,
it’s such a low down dirty shame.
Always advertising, and why is that,
done by this ole elf in a funny hat?

He’s supposed to deliver tons of toys,
for the world’s little girls and boys.
Getting glasses of milk and cookies too,
but advertising Santa?, shame on you.

Now you wonder what I’m talking about,
I thought by now you’d have figured it out.
Advertising for Hostess without a thought,
talking about a great product they’ve got.
As he shakes from his belly, down to his toes,
that’s the reason behind all of his “Ho Ho’s”

That's exactly what was missed. Clyde was about to get shot by the patrolman for moaning or groaning like his mule did......

Thanks to both of you for the comments

I actually found this poem's ending very sad (maybe I missed something)? Reindeer.gif

The patrolman, having found the mule 'not well' shot him; gun still drawn, he asked the mule's owner, "... and how are YOU doing?"

Is that what you missed, Lori? blush.gif

It was a terrible accident that happened months ago,
and now Clyde has decided to sue, you know.
In front of the judge when it came to trial,
the defense attorney in strict denial.

Months ago you told the highway patrolman that you were fine,
and now you’re coming up with the injury lawsuit line.
Judge, Clyde broke in, I have to tell you about my mule,
I’m sure the story will change how you rule.

When that semi ran the stop sign and hit my truck,
my prize mule had a streak of bad luck.
Thrown in the ditch, I was tossed on the other side,
with all it’s moaning and groaning, I couldn’t help though I tried.

The highway patrol arrived and went to check it out,
that mule was a goner, there wasn’t a doubt.
He pulled his gun, shot my mule between the eyes,
with no hope of survival, he considered that wise.

With gun still in hand, he came back to check on me,
thoughts racing through my mind about my destiny.
I have to ask you judge, what do you think you would say,
if he asked you, and you, how are YOU doing today????

Daniel,

I almost forgot how it's always a treat to read you. Your impeccable style is enriching. Lovely and funnny, with excellent dialogue and descriptions.

Enjoyed every screech and the suspense, to the extent that my heart beat so loud in my ears and I shook. :)

Awesome read.

I sit here and ponder the progress mankind has made,
let's face it, we've got it made today, in the shade.
We can put men on the moon, soon who knows where,
our technology has progressed beyond compare.

Cars that are more economical than ever before,
self checkout registers when you hit the store.
Hand and foot warmers not requiring batteries,
and work saving gadgets that are sure to please.

Modern conveniences that make life as easy as can be,
but there's still one invention missing, apparently.
All this technical expertise doesn't amount to diddly squat,
if I'm still freezing my tush when I sit on the pot.........

Indeed you are one talented "Poe-It" WRITE ON Ron!!

QUOTE (jgdittier @ Oct 23 06, 21:46 ) *
Once a thought occurred beyond us, mischiefmaking so beconned us,
no one thinking of the future that's in store.
Heaven help us, what is learing, suddenly a cat's appearing.
Who's that feline, eyes so neering, scratching at my kitchen door?
"Cat", I say, "You bore", I stammered, running to my kitchen door.
"Outta here", you, I abjure.

Well, whenever I discover, cats and dogs, I am no lover.
O'er your "bod'" I dare to hover, "Disappear or I'll make war"!
Standing there, I booted "Blacky", cats for me! I'll be no lackey.
Feline fancy, it's just tacky, cats as pets, I'll have no more,
for no fleas or midnight meows, feline fancies , I abhor.
"Blacky, begone from my door!"
