Mosaic Musings...interactive poetry reviews _ Member Announcements -> Basilica _ Two weeks holiday

Posted by: Psyche Feb 9 17, 00:16

Hi everybody!
I'm taking 2 weeks' holiday today. Looking forward to it.

It would be great if some poet members would set up some challenges in Acropolis. It would be a fantastic gesture, considering that we hardly have any active staff at the moment.

And by the way, if some members of MM think they would like to belong to the staff, be a moderator, help with comments, etc., then please do PM Eira (Snow), Lori and myself (Psyche), when I return. Of course the few acting staff would consider your offer, because that's how all forums work.

All the best to everybody,
Syl butterfly.gif

Hi Eira, Daniel, Rhymer and Lori,
As some of you know, my 2 week holiday turned into a 2 month break, simply because I fell and fractured my leg inside the bungalow I'd rented in a lovely place called La Cumbre, in Córdoba province of Argentina.
So now I have 3 long screws inside my femur...LOL. I had surgery in Córdoba city at an excellent hospital. Trouble was, the surgeon didn't allow me to fly home to Bariloche because there's a danger of blood clots in one's legs after that sort of surgery. Something to do with the pressurized cabins.
I quite enjoyed staying on for 2 months, as the surroundings are beautiful and I was able to move into a large residence for senior citizens, where they have a nursery and all sorts of activities. Vast grounds with ancient trees and well-cared flower beds.
Now I'm back home in Bariloche, but had to get up to date with lots of stuff, as well as having my leg x-rayed twice, just to check how my tissues were knitting together. All well and don't need any sort of help now, wish me luck for the future!
Thank you for the good wishes, despite my unexpected experience. I did make some good friends while away. Might even decide to move there... The climate in Patagonia is too cold for my liking. We're having several degrees below 0°C, snow is expected this week, and the wind can be icy.
I'm only going to take a look around MM now, as it's become late.
Best to all, Syl butterfly.gif

Hi Syl,

I'm so very glad to see you back from your (too weak) holiday. Sorry to hear about your broken leg and all but from what you wrote, you met new friends and were able to stay in beautiful surroundings while you recuperated.

Again, welcome home!

Larry

Yikes, Sylvia. I'm so sorry I never read this here but had to discover your plight on Facebook! I confess that I seldom even look here because of the fact that there is so little activity.

Please forgive my serious oversight! Glad to also know that you're doing better now.

Love in Light, Daniel sun.gif

Hi there, Larry and Daniel,
Thanks for the best wishes and all that. I've been terribly busy getting up to date with stuff. Winter started far too early, and then we had record cold and lots of snow. Then a power outage that lasted 3 days. How much we rely on electricity! No TV, no Internet, nothing.
After the first day, I took everything out of my freezer, dug a hole in the snow outside my kitchen, and in it I placed cartons of milk, yoghurts, ravioli, etc. wrapped in plastic bags. Then I covered the hole with plenty of snow. It was a bit of a nuisance getting necessary foods out about twice a day, but there wasn't much else to do...LOL.
Fortunately, I had plenty of candles, so I was able to read a lot, as well as retrieving an old notebook where I had written lots of short stories by hand long ago. Surprisingly, I continued to write by hand several more pages.
Diana's car couldn't be moved, but her husband's Toyota Hilux truck soon got him down the hillside and we were able to shop.
Anyway, more snow is predicted for this week, our maximum temperatures are at about 3 or 4°C, but feel far colder when the wind blows at 30 or 40 kms/per hour.
I'm really thinking seriously of returning to that residence where the climate is moderate. Can be hot in summer, but there's always A/C.
My fracture has healed perfectly.
I've read about Lori's fracture and 2 surgeries on FB. She's been having a hard time, I'm very sorry to say. But with rehab and other help, she's finally gone back to her new job, after a whole year of absence. Her pain is intense. It's around her ankle and foot, so walking is difficult for her.
Well, that's all for now.
Thanks for your messages,
Syl*** butterfly.gif

You and Lori have really been through it! I've seen a pain management specialist for my leg trouble; I'm trying to stay away from pain meds so far. Just walking with cane or rolling walker. Only other trouble is 'g' key on my computer. May have to send the whole computer in just to get that fixed! Oh, how silly our difficulties seem, huh. Remember those days before the internet?

sun.gif Yep, we've had a tough time. I keep thinking back about my stupid fall inside a bungalow. No steps, no obstacles of any kind. Plop! Ouch! Still, I've been searching Internet about falls of people who have Fibromyalgia. And there I think I found the explanation. We have between 3 and 10% more chances of falling than other people. Period.
Daniel, I hope your pain specialist finds a solution for your leg trouble. But pain specialist give you exactly what you've been trying to avoid: pain meds. I take Tramadol 50mg. with Paracetamol 500mg. It keeps the pain tolerable, except on exceptional days. The harsh winter climate this year hasn't helped, it's the worst in decades.
Climate change involves extremes of heat, cold, storms, floods, etc.

Hey, I don't understand why the 'g' doesn't work. Can't you just take the keyboard to be fixed? When keyboards get really old, one usually just throws them out and buys another one.

I have lovely memories of my childhood and adolescence without Internet! I did an awful lot of reading, horseback riding, bicycling or getting up to mischief.

Thanks for the empathy, and I'll be thinking of you as well. Best of luck,
Syl*** butterfly.gif

Why hello wave.gif Syl!

I am still very sorry to hear all you've been through!! I think our trauma happened around the same time? My accident occurred on Feb. 7th. I'm very glad to hear you are up and moving around as we chatted a little bit on FB about. And I'm moving maybe a little complicated however you got to do what's best for you in the long run. Glad to hear you've made some new friends! hsdance.gif

I check in and read often but using my phone has been difficult as a means to reply. I do intend to get in here using my laptop, now that I'm sort of finally back to normal. Started PT this week to get my foot flexible enough to walk soon. Six months of immobility makes it complicated. Can't post from work, so I'll need to plan time at home.

Hugs and best wishes always! GroupHug.gif

Hi again, Lori! JackBox.gif
Yep, we had our accidents in February, but I don't remember the date.
Moving is certainly complicated. It won't be before our Spring. More snow is predicted for this weekened.

You appear to have had a longer recuperation time. Two surgeries? So sorry about that. Will you be able to use compression socks to keep the swelling down? I got some really good cotton ones. Use them every day. Not sure about hot summer days, but on the other hand, if I move to a milder climate I'll walk a lot more and that will keep the swelling down.

Yes, I also find it difficult to use my smartphone for anything more than a few lines. Clumsy me. Young people are so fast, it's amazing.

We're all looking forward to your return to MM, Lori. Even if you post oldies, OK? cloud9.gif

I'm going to post something now, for the first time in about 2 years!

Take care, hugs,
Syl*** butterfly.gif
