JESUS'S BIRTHDAY

They’re right, to whom it seems,
that your Christmas is a dream,
for so much hope has flown away
this century, month or day,
from hearts who’ve been debased
and yearn to be embraced.
Sad scenes you might enact --
joyous thoughts they will distract.

Regard those gifts upon your lap
before the trimmings you unwrap.
Is your feast therefore less real?
All thrills that you may feel
are great blessings from above,
bestowed with gracious love
on our Saviour's natal date.
He loves to watch us celebrate!

Yet others cower amidst the roar
and scourge of far-off war,
so pray remember that today
is our gentle Lord's true day;
gifts you clasp within your hand
are gilded grains of sand --
all things we seize or save
are swept by sifting waves.

So treasure in your mind and heart
words and deeds that won’t depart
when souls pass by celestial stations
en route to realms of many mansions
adorned with sacred charms --
radiance from our Saviour's arms.

For all He keeps eternal wait
at Heaven's shining, Golden Gate!

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.

Hello Sylvia rainbow.gif

This is so beautiful; it really captures every inch of the magic of Christmas and reminds us what it's all about..in this commercial age, I think it's easy to forget. I really enjoyed it wizard2.gif

"What could have made her peaceful with a mind
That nobleness made simple as a fire,
With beauty like a tightened bow, a kind
That is not natural in an age like this,
Being high and solitary and most stern?
Why, what could she have done, being what she is?
Was there another Troy for her to burn?"
WB Yeats "No Second Troy"

Sylvia,

This is so lovely! It has an old world feel to it too which you know I'm partial to. Love the last stanza and couplet and this:

so pray remember that today
is our gentle Lord's true day;
gifts you clasp within your hand
are gilded grains of sand --

Enjoyed,
