"On Death and Dying."
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

In it, she identified five stages that a dying patient experiences when informed of their terminal prognosis. Most patients go through these stages many times, sometimes all at the same time.

The stages Kubler-Ross identified are:

• Denial (this isn't happening to me!)
• Anger (why is this happening to me?)
• Bargaining (I promise I'll be a better person if...)
• Depression (I don't care anymore)
• Acceptance (I'm ready for whatever comes)

In this glosa, I have used poetic license with a big slash. Instead of a poem, I used the above stages, the first word in each as a name for that particular verse. The statement in parenthesis used as the end lines, and rhyme, each verse working toward the ending line and as a picture of the beginning word name.
I have also placed an end statement of my own not to be considered as part of the glosa, just my own personal wish.

On Death and Dying

Denial (this isn't happening to me!)
Anger (why is this happening to me?)
Bargaining (I promise I'll be a better person if...)
Depression (I don't care anymore)
Acceptance (I'm ready for whatever comes)

Denial

How can this be?
I’ve never been sick.
A second opinion
that’s what I need.
The tests are mixed up,
they got the wrong one you see.
CAT-scan has a glitch,
computers do that they’re unreliable.
Doctors will figure it out, and then I’m free,
this isn’t happening to me!

Anger

Bastards! I know they’re scum,
they just want more money.
Imbeciles "what do you mean you can’t fix this?
Why don’t you know what the causes are? you’re a doctor!
My life expectancy is only six years…are you nuts?
I have to be on a list? Oh but the list is free.
Is that supposed to be some sort of compensation?
Therefore, someone else has to die so I might breathe
I think that’s a human waste, don’t you agree?
Why is this happening to me?"

Bargaining

Do I believe in God?
Maybe I should.
Grant me my prayer
I’ll do anything You wish.

"Doctor, please tell me different
I won’t whine, cry or even sniff,
it’s not as if I did anything to deserve
this." Oh God, please, please
just don’t let me walk off this cliff,
"I promise!! I’ll be a better person if…"

Depression

Borderline of normalcy,
cross over into the bizarre.
It’s dark and lonely there,
I’ll have no friends.
I see no belief, no acknowledgement,
you think I wanted this, you sure?
My eyes betray me, there’s no one home,
I am not myself I have no understanding
of why I shouldn’t walk through death’s door,
I don’t care anymore.

Acceptance

I know that it is real
there is no doubt.
I may not like that fact.
But, it’s the truth.
I am going to die there is no cure.
Angels infinite in their sums
cannot estimate my time
left, an uncertain clock, running down.
Moreover, I know angels will be the ones,
I’m ready for whatever comes.

God grant me dignity in my death.
