I DO NOT WISH ....

What I would ask for from Magi passing this way
is an end to the endless, mindless Christmas affray
from September or before they line up their list
enough of frivolity, I'm getting quite pissed
I see it that stores need to plan well ahead
but let poor Child alone, asleep in his bed

In fact, to be honest, at the end's not too bad
all tuckered out, but that start's so early to be had
for jollity and japes and all such kindred things
for shepherds and seraphim and three Holy Kings
so Peace on Earth, before I commit an affray
I do NOT wish it could be Christmas every day !

Hi Alan,

I agree with you, absolutely. And for other reasons as well, because that commercial blast that hits us in September and ends with people rushing madly around to purchase a forgotten present that nobody really needs...just makes me sad instead of jolly. rollerskater.gif

I used to love Christmas...but for the last 10 or 15 years too many lost loved ones come to mind, can't help it. My husband died this year after 15 years of dementia. It began when he was much too young.

So all this crap -Daniel's word in his last poem- around Christmas, with its true spirit flown out the window, depressess me.

I see you've put three ***, but I'll return because it's late and I do have some suggestions for you to TorToss.

Keep calm and have joyful festivities with your large family!

Hi Alan

It's good to read a poem from you again. This one really hits the spot for me too. The worst example was a couple of years ago when a local pub had its Xmas tree up and trimmed in August!!! Christmas is so commercialised that all meaning seems to have been diminished. (and in the New Year we will see Easter Eggs in the shops)

A few suggestions below, take or toss -

What I would ask for from Magi passing this way
is an end to the [endless,] mindless Christmas affray
from September or before they line up their list
enough of frivolity, I'm getting quite pissed. (full stop)
I [see it that] understand stores need to plan well ahead
but let poor Child alone, asleep in his bed

In fact, to be honest, [at] the end is not too bad
all tuckered out, [but that start's so early to be had] it's the early start that makes me mad (or sad)
for jollity and japes and all [such] kindred things
for shepherds and seraphim and three Holy Kings
so Peace on Earth, before I commit an affray
I do NOT wish it could be Christmas every day !

Well said Alan!
